Last month, around 100 students from the Moon Area School District’s band and orchestra programs got to go to Florida for a multi-day trip that combined not just musical performances with visits to several of the well known theme parks specifically Disney and Universal. The trip took place from Thursday through Monday and gave the students the opportunity to represent their school while also being able to experience some of the most popular attractions in the Orlando area.
One of the main highlights of the trip was the Moon Area marching band’s performance at Magic Kingdom, part of the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando. The band marched in a parade down Main Street, performing for guests visiting the park. Crowds gathered along the sidewalks to watch as the students played their music and marched through one of the most recognizable areas of the park. Performing in such a well-known location was a unique opportunity for the students and allowed them to showcase the work they had put in throughout the school year.
The school’s orchestra also had the opportunity to perform during the trip. The orchestra performed at Disney Springs, a shopping and entertainment area located at Walt Disney World Resort. Visitors walking through the area stopped to listen as the group performed several pieces they had prepared in advance. The performance allowed the orchestra students to share their music with a large and diverse audience.
In addition to their performances, students were able to visit several theme parks during the trip. The group spent time at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. While visiting these parks, students were able to explore different attractions, try a variety of foods, and spend time with their classmates outside of school.
During the visit to Hollywood Studios, many students had the chance to ride the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. The ride was scheduled to close the following week, making the experience especially memorable for those who were able to go on it before it shut down.
The trip also included a visit to Universal Orlando Resort on the final day before the group traveled home. Students spent the day enjoying rides and attractions at the park before returning from the trip.
Throughout the trip, students were accompanied by their band and orchestra directors, along with other school staff members who helped organize the travel, performances, and daily activities. The trip required months of planning and preparation to make sure everything ran smoothly.
For many students, the experience was both exciting and rewarding. In addition to performing for large audiences, the trip gave students the chance to spend time with their classmates and create lasting memories outside of the classroom. Opportunities like this allow student musicians to apply what they learn in rehearsals to real-world performances while representing their school in a unique setting.
