On April 30th, students, families, teachers, and community members gathered together for a memorable evening celebrating academic excellence and achievement at this year’s Moon Area High School Honors Night. The event recognized students for their dedication, leadership, hard work, and commitment to success both inside and outside of the classroom.
Throughout the evening, students were honored for achieving high grade point averages and earning placement on the Honor Roll, High Honor Roll, and Distinguished Honor Roll. These students demonstrated determination, responsibility, and perseverance throughout the school year while balancing rigorous coursework, extracurricular activities, athletics, and community involvement. Many seniors achieved a Cumulative GPA of 4.00+ from 9th through 10th grade, totaling 38 seniors.
A special part of the ceremony included the recognition of scholar athletes who have excelled both academically and athletically. Out of the 100 senior scholar athletes, Luka Stengl and Aubrey Marasco showed outstanding commitment by keeping strong academic performance while representing Moon through their sports and team leadership.
In addition to academic recognition, many scholarships and awards were presented to deserving seniors. Local organizations such as Mary and Mike’s Miles, Michael Terrell’s Memorial, Moon Area Education Foundation, Moon Area Association, and Moon Education Association Spirit generously provided scholarships to help students continue their education and pursue future careers. Awards recognized excellence in areas such as education, science, mathematics, engineering, community service, leadership, perseverance, allied health, and school spirit. Several memorial scholarships were awarded in honor of individuals, such as Dr. Robert Michael and James W. and Margaret K., whose legacies continue to inspire students to strive for success and positively affect their communities.
The evening highlighted not only academic accomplishments, but also the dedicated support system surrounding the students. Parents, guardians, teachers, coaches, counselors, and community members were thanked for encouraging students throughout their educational journeys.
As the ceremony concluded, students left feeling proud of their accomplishments and excited for what lies ahead. Out of the 311 senior class members, there was 3 National Merit Scholars, 58 National Honors Society members, 70 Honor Seniors, 47 High Honor Seniors, and 75 Distinguished Honor Seniors.
