Right before the beginning of Christmas break, Moon Area High School students participated in their first Serve It Forward volleyball tournament. All proceeds went to the Angel Tree program, which the school has been involved with for many years. Each team was required to pay five dollars per person with seven people on each team. The fundraiser successfully combined school spirit, friendly competition, and community service into one meaningful event.
The tournament was held in the high school’s main and auxiliary gyms. It was open to students of all grade levels. The teams were made up of friends, classmates, and teammates who were excited to compete while supporting a good cause. Then students in normal classes came down during 6 and 7th period to participate in the championship game fun. The gym was full of kids excited for Christmas break and looking to win the new volleyball trophy.
Games were played in a round robin style format to begin, which allowed each team to get comfortable playing with each other and to participate in multiple games. This structure helped keep the tournament moving while ensuring everyone had a chance to participate. Line judges and scorekeepers volunteered their time from their classes in school to help their games run fairly and efficiently. Between matches, students socialized, watched other teams play, and enjoyed the upbeat atmosphere.
Proceeds went to the Angel Tree program, which benefits children and families that are in need during the holiday season by providing them with gifts and necessities. This made it a meaningful cause for the students to support. By hosting their Serve It Forward volleyball tournament, the school was able to raise money and spread awareness about the importance of giving back to the community during the holiday season.
Students shared that they enjoyed being a part of an event that allowed them to help others while having fun. Participants appreciated the tournament because it was affordable and inclusive, making it easy for students to join. Organizers were pleased with the turnout and positive response from the players and spectators.
An important part of the tournament was the leadership shown by student organizers and the teachers who helped plan and supervise the event. They worked together to schedule games, organize teams and ensure everything ran smoothly throughout the day. Their dedication helped create a positive, respectful environment where students focused on teamwork, sportsmanship and giving back. Support from staff and student leaders played a key role in making the volleyball tournament a memorable and impactful experience for everyone involved.
Overall, the Serve it Forward volleyball tournament was a successful first event for Moon Area High School. It demonstrated how students can come together and make a difference within the building while showing their school pride and their teamwork along the way. Because of the success this year, there is hope the holiday tournament will become a new tradition in years to come, continuing to support the Angel Tree foundation while strengthening the school’s community.
