Every rap fan around the world has been awaiting the release of Playboi Carti’s newest album. The last album released by him was in 2020, named Whole Lotta Red, which warranted a lot of mixed opinions in the rap space. Ever since then, Carti has been posting teases for MUSIC on his Instagram but had never given a date for the album to drop. After a grueling 5 year wait, the 30-song album is officially on all music streaming platforms. The general opinion of the public seems to be positive, although some are not amused with the redundancy of most of the songs. The top three songs with the most listens according to Spotify are EVIL JORDAN, RATHER LIE (with The Weekend), and CRUSH (with Travis Scott).
Most of the songs on this album consisted of up tempo, hardcore beats that keeps listeners engaged. The Weekend was a great compliment to Carti on RATHER LIE, which is a major reason for the success the song has had. It was also great to see several Travis Scott features. He gave some solid verses, while also giving some diversity to his songs. Most importantly, Kendrick Lamar had his fair share of appearances on this album. His features came with some harsh criticism, in specifically some of his voice inflections sounding unlike traditional Kendrick Lamar. Overall, the feature list seemed to have the public very excited, and it seemed to deliver even after the album was released.
After a few weeks of releasing the original album, Carti decided to release the deluxe version, with four extra songs. Most of these songs had been previously leaked by either Carti or other sources. These songs all followed a similar tempo and pace to the original album and seemed to have a positive review around rap fanatics. Even though Carti had some mishaps in the process of releasing this album, it has lived up to nearly all of the five year hype.
