The energy inside the gymnasium was electric as the infamous Colony Ball trophy stood proudly at center court, setting the stage for a highly anticipated matchup between Sam’s Children and the Sole Survivors. Before the action began, Mr. K addressed the crowd, explaining how the event’s fundraising efforts would support the Peer-to-Peer program, with an impressive $335 raised for the cause.
Mr. Kevin comes out as the legendary inventor of Colony Ball which he created back in 1975. His passion for the sport continues to inspire students today.
As the game kicked off, all eyes were on Mr. Derek Kaminski, who earned the prestigious title of Big Pitcher, essentially the game’s MVP. With both teams fired up, the opening moments set the tone for an epic clash.
Before stepping onto the court, players Nolan Jazcar from the Sole Survivors and Josh Koren with Sam’s Children spoke with excitement and confidence, ready to face their rivals.
Nolan Jazcar went into the game confidently saying, “Of course were going to win, obviously. We’re going to get off to a good start in the first three innings and then just hold it down from there.” He gave a shout out to Marc Haupt, saying that he “expects a big game” from him.
Josh Koren however went in humbly saying he was just “looking forward to it”. He revealed their effort to “focus on the small plays and make everything we can.” He gave a shoutout to opposing team member Billy Sprott as Sole Survivors best player.
Top 1st Inning:
The Sole Survivors struck first, taking a quick 1-0 lead.
Bottom 1st Inning:
Sam’s Children fought to even the score, but players Alec, Josh, and Max were all called out, leaving the team empty-handed.
Top 2nd Inning:
The Sole Survivors failed to build on their lead, staying at 1-0.
Bottom 2nd Inning:
Sam’s Children struggled again, with Brody and Nicky both being called out, leaving the score stuck at 1-0 in favor of Sole Survivors.
Top 3rd Inning:
The Survivors pulled off a big play when Mark hit the ball to the ceiling, bringing in 3 runs and extending their lead to 3-0.
Bottom 3rd Inning:
Sam’s Children exploded offensively, with Jarrod, Evan, Alec, Sedan, Will, Connor, and Ryder all scoring. A crucial bunt attempt by Nicky didn’t pan out, but with a total of 9 runs, Sam’s Children surged ahead 9-4.
Top 4th Inning:
The Sole Survivors couldn’t recover, failing to score and falling further behind.
Bottom 4th Inning:
Sam’s Children kept the momentum rolling, adding 3 more runs—one ball even flew into the audience, adding to the chaos and excitement. With the score now 12-4, Sam’s lead was nearly untouchable.
Top 5th Inning:
A ceiling kick highlighted the final inning, but it wasn’t enough to spark a comeback for the Survivors.

With the game-ending handshakes and high-fives, Sam’s Children were officially crowned Colony Ball champions.
After and exciting victory, Alec Batchelor recounted the best moment in the game being “When Billy hit the ceiling, although I did feel bad, it was a relief knowing we didn’t have to kick that final inning”. Alec also admitted to “knowing we were going to win, but I was still a little nervous”. Those nerves however went away when “After the 4th inning, we new we won”.
