The 2026 season is shaping up to be a historic one for the Moon Area Girls Flag Football team. For the first time ever, girls flag football will compete in an official WPIAL season, marking a major milestone not only for the program but for the growth of the sport across Western Pennsylvania. 
 
After building momentum over the past few seasons, the Tigers enter this year with excitement, experience, and a strong senior class ready to lead the way. These returning seniors have helped establish the foundation of the program, bringing leadership, energy, and a competitive spirit that continues to push the team forward. 
 
One of the most exciting storylines surrounding the program is senior Lilly Barr, who plans to continue playing flag football after high school at CalU. Her commitment to the sport highlights the growing opportunities available for female athletes and serves as an inspiration for younger players in the program who hope to follow a similar path. 
 
Leading the team once again is head coach Jason Russel, whose passion for the game and dedication to his players has helped shape Moon’s program from the ground up. Coach Russel has focused on developing not only strong athletes, but confident leaders on and off the field. His emphasis on teamwork, preparation, and having fun while competing has helped create a positive and competitive culture within the team. 
 
With the sport continuing to grow rapidly across the state, the Tigers are excited to take part in the first official WPIAL season. The moment represents years of hard work from players, coaches, and supporters who believed in the future of girls flag football.
