Model United Nations (Model UN) is more than just a club; it’s a chance for students to step into the role of world leaders and tackle real global issues. In Model UN, students represent different countries and work together to debate international problems such as climate change, human rights, global health, and international conflict. Through research, public speaking, and collaboration, members gain a deeper understanding of how the world works and how diplomacy shapes global decisions.
At Model UN conferences, students act as delegates for assigned countries. Before the conference, members research their country’s position on specific topics and write position papers outlining their goals and policies. During the conference, delegates participate in formal debate, give speeches, negotiate with other countries, and work together to write resolutions that propose solutions to global issues. Conferences are fast paced, challenging, and exciting, pushing students to think critically, speak confidently, and adapt under pressure.

Our Model UN club has an exciting opportunity coming up soon. On February 6, members will be attending a Model United Nations conference at Duquesne University. This conference will allow students to engage with delegates from other schools, sharpen their debate skills, and experience what it’s like to participate in a college-level Model UN environment. Conferences like this are not only educational but also incredibly rewarding, giving students a sense of accomplishment and confidence in their abilities.

As the club looks toward the future, we are especially encouraging underclassmen to get involved. Many current members will be graduating in the coming years, and the success of Model UN depends on new students stepping up to continue the club’s legacy. To join, come by Mrs. Ruggiero’s room on club day! We will be happy to add you to our team which provides information about meetings and conferences. Fresh perspectives, new leadership, and enthusiastic participation are essential to keeping Model UN strong and active next year and beyond.
Model UN is a great opportunity for students interested in global affairs, law, politics, public speaking, or simply challenging themselves in a new way. Whether you’re a freshman curious about world issues or a sophomore looking to build leadership skills, Model UN offers a place to grow, learn, and make your voice heard. The future of the club starts now, and it starts with you.
