The US Open is an iconic two-week tennis tournament started in 1881 where the world’s best men’s and women’s players compete to determine the best player in the world. The top seeds for the men include Jannick Sinner from Italy at world No.1, Novak Djokovic at world No.2, and Carlos Alcaraz at world No.3. Women includes Iga Swiatek at world No.1, Aryna Sabalanka at world No.2 and Coco Gauff at world No.3. Carlos Alcaraz is hot entering the tournament, winning Wimbledon in dominating fashion. Novak Djokovic is also feeling confident, as he won the French Open 3 months ago. Barbora Krejcikova is also coming off a fabulous Wimbledon victory after being a huge underdog. Men’s matches will be played in a best of 5 sets format, while women’s will be best of 3 sets. Many people around the US should be excited for their players, as there are 5 men ranked in the top 25, along with 5 in the women’s as well. However, there is some reason to have disbelief in the Americans, with the last American US open winner was Andy Roddick in 2003. Many fellow players in the tournament have voiced their frustration recently towards Men’s No.1 Jannik Sinner for testing positive for steroids twice before the start of the Open. Many players and members of the media believed he should not be able to play in the US Open, feeling he has an unfair advantage. After long debate, it was determined that Sinner would be able to compete after reports of microscopic amounts of substances were used. This year’s annual US Open tennis tournament will be one filled with jaw dropping points, powerful serves, and wild upsets.
