Students at Moon Area High School were given a powerful and emotional reminder about the dangers of impaired and distracted driving during a mock crash presentation held on school grounds earlier in April. The event, organized by school officials in partnership with local emergency services, was a dramatic and sobering experience designed to leave a lasting impact on the student body—particularly the junior and senior classes preparing for prom and graduation season.
The mock crash, staged in the school’s parking lot, featured a realistic car accident scenario involving student actors portraying victims of a drunk driving incident. With shattered glass, simulated injuries, and the sound of sirens piercing the air, the scene unfolded as police, firefighters, and EMTs responded just as they would in a real-life emergency.
As the wrecked vehicles were revealed and first responders worked the scene, students watched in silence. One student was portrayed as dead on arrival, covered with a white sheet. Another was taken away in an ambulance, while the student playing the impaired driver was handcuffed and placed in a police car, visibly shaken. A hearse arrived shortly after to transport the “deceased” victim—a chilling moment that brought many students to tears.
