On May 6th, the Boy’s Lacrosse team had a spectacular senior night win in one of their last games of the season. The boys beat Allderdice 18-1, in a commanding win. The night honored the teams eight accomplished seniors: Machi Baldis, Ben Witenski, Mitchell Burgen, Dylan Cernetic, Josh Koren, Joey Maritato, Alec Batchelor, and Cole Seymour.
The seniors have no shortage of accomplishments on and off the field, and three are committed to continuing their lacrosse careers in college. Mitchell (defender) will be playing at Baldwin Wallace University, Alec (attack) will be at Point Park University, and Cole (midfield) will be at Allegheny College.
Further accomplishments include three seniors hitting the coveted 100 points mark: Ben Witenski, Alec Batchelor, and Cole Seymour. Midfielder Josh Koren noted the team’s biggest accomplishment however, was “building a culture and developing a strong team bond”.
This accomplishment not regarding point total reflects the powerful connection within the team. Cole Seymour admitted his favorite part of playing lacrosse is the “culture” and Mitchell Burgan noted his as “spending time with his teammates”.
The team as a whole completed the season 9-8, an impressive winning record considering the tough section they faced. They had multiple close games, including a tense season opener at Frankling Regional. They won by one goal in double overtime. Senior attackman Alec Batchelor scored the tying goal with 6 seconds to go to send the team to overtime.
Throughout the season, the boys showed endless grit and determination, on and off the field. Every year on senior night, the Michael Trella award is given to a senior who demonstrates hard work and determination, putting the team before themselves and never giving up. This year, the accolade and scholarship went to attackman Ben Witenski, a core piece in the offense.
These seniors reflect the Moon Boys Lacrosse team’s close bond and hard work ethic. Moonbeams wishes them the best of luck in their future lacrosse and academic endeavors!
