Moon Area varsity baseball, led by head coach Rick Rowe, kicked off their season on March 15th against Atlantic Collegiate Academy. Although they lost 5-4 a lot is in store for the Tigers this season. The Tigers are ranked third in the WPIAL 5A 2 Conference. Even though the Tigers have a 3-5 record, 3-2 in their division, this roster is filled with talent. Senior shortstop Connor Kunkle leads the Tigers in OBP (On Base Percentage) with 0.714 and is the only player to hit a homerun so far this season. Kunkle is committed to Allegheny College to play Division 3 baseball next year. Junior second baseman Thad Longwell leads the team in batting average with 0.571. Following him is junior catcher Taylor Ebner, and Connor Kunkle who both have 0.500 average. Senior Outfielder Angelo Fachet has two stolen bases on the season so far which leads the team. Fachet is committed to play Division 3 baseball at Washington and Jefferson next year. Junior shortstop Andrew Cross is committed to play Division 1 baseball at Penn State University whenever he graduates from Moon. The Tigers are coming off a narrow win against Chartiers Valley 6-5 breaking their 2-game losing streak. Striving for greatness the Tigers will continue to try and win games so they can go back to the playoffs for a second straight year.
