Moon Area’s High School Track and Field team just competed in their 2025 Section Meet at South Fayette High School. There was a lot of talent on display, which made the competition especially challenging for the Tigers. Both the boys and girls teams gave it their all, with the boys capturing the section title and the girls finishing as runners-up. The girls team will now compete again in a follow-up section meet for a shot at the WPIAL team finals.
Let’s talk about the impressive performances at this meet.
Starting with the boys: sprinters Marcus McGill and Bailey Simon ran strong 100m races, with McGill clocking in at 11.44 (3rd) and Simon just behind at 11.45 (4th). Simon also shined in the 200m, running 23.27 to place 3rd. While the team didn’t place well in the 400m, they bounced back in the 800m, where Samuel Herrera ran a 2:03 to take 1st place. Tyler Giunipero dominated the distance events, placing 1st in both the 1600m (4:28) and 3200m (9:51).
In hurdles, Jared Moyer scored key points by finishing 2nd in both the 110m hurdles (16.20) and 300m hurdles (42.02). The relay teams were unstoppable, with Moon winning all three: 4x100m (44.56), 4x400m (3:29), and 4x800m (8:18).
In the jumps, Ben Delsite placed 1st in both Triple Jump (41’8) and Long Jump (20’5), while Elijah Thomas took 4th in Pole Vault with a jump of 13’6. In throwing events, Jake D’Aniello and Jake Duncan placed 1st and 2nd in Discus (134’10 and 122’3). In Shot Put, Moon swept the top three spots—Nick Clemens (44’2), D’Aniello (39’7), and Dawson Dobyns (38’10). Though the boys didn’t place well in Javelin, their dominance across other events secured them the section title.
For the girls team: Rachel Stepp stood out in sprints, taking 2nd in the 100m (12.74), 1st in the 200m (25.99), and 1st again in the 400m (57.85). In the 800m, Elise Ashcroft placed 2nd (2:24) and Sonya Taylor 4th (2:27). Though Ashcroft typically runs the 1600m, she sat out due to injury, allowing Taylor to step in and place 5th (5:30). Alexis Schuler placed 5th in the 3200m with a time of 12:27.
In hurdles, Alena Taylor ran 17.10 to place 2nd in the 100m hurdles, and she also took 4th in the 300m hurdles (50.51), just ahead of Emily Womer in 5th (50.53). The relay teams all placed in the top 5: 4x100m (3rd, 51.90), 4x400m (4th, 4:25), and 4x800m (5th, 10:41).

In the jumps, Lydia Delsite and Ellen Senkevich placed 2nd (5’3) and 5th (4’11) in High Jump. In Long Jump, Stepp took 3rd (15’10.25) and Jaedin Griggs 4th (15’10). Triple Jump was a major highlight, with Griggs (1st, 36’11), Senkevich (2nd, 34’11.5), and Delsite (3rd, 34’5.5) sweeping the podium. In Discus, Maria Depner placed 2nd (91’4), but the team fell short in Pole Vault, Javelin, and Shot Put.
Both teams gave it everything they had and showed incredible grit, athleticism, and teamwork. The boys’ dominant performance earned them the section title, while the girls, despite a few setbacks, proved their strength and depth by finishing as runners-up. Their season isn’t over yet—there’s still more to fight for as they gear up for another section meet with the WPIAL team finals in sight. With the momentum they’ve built, there’s no doubt that Moon Area is a team to watch.
