This year appears to be a great year to keep these traditions going, with some superstar talent on top teams, and several lower seeds hungry for wins to put their program on the map.
Selection Sunday for this year’s tournament is set for March 16 on CBS. This will reveal the official bracket and matchups. The favorites to become the one seed in their respective region are Auburn in the South, Duke in the East, Florida in the West, and Houston in the Midwest. Some of the major teams that are considered bubble teams, which are teams fighting for the last few spots in the tournament, include Baylor, Ohio State, Indiana, and Xavier. The Auburn Tigers currently have the highest odds to win the tournament, according to most sports books. They are led by star forward Johni Broome, who is leading the team in points rebounds, and assists. They have most recently been ranked 3rd overall in the AP poll for college basketball, which ranks every team in the country. Barely trailing the Tigers in best odds are the Duke Blue Devils. Duke is led by Freshman phenom Cooper Flagg, who is also leading his team in points, rebounds, and assists. Flagg is projected to be the number one pick in next years NBA draft. He has very little weakness in his game and is a major reason why Duke has been ranked number 1 overall in the most recent AP poll. Other teams like the Florida Gators, Houston Cougars, and Alabama Crimson Tide are also in the mix to become the March Madness Champions.
