With President Trump winning the election, he now has the power to nominate new cabinet members into office. As expected, his cabinet members are going to be majority Republican, which will likely mean an easier path to confirmation for candidates. Many democrats are fearful of the senate becoming all Republican, which would shift the dynamic of the government in dramatic fashion.
Some of Trumps most notable additions to his administration include Florida Senator Mark Rubio as the Secretary of State, Pete Hegseth, a military veteran and Fox News host, as Defense Secretary, and Pam Bondi, former Florida attorney general, as the Attorney General, just to name a few. Trump has been vocal about his support for the richest man in the world, Elon Musk. Musk will be involved in Trumps Administration but will not have to be confirmed by the Senate. It is expected that Musk will be an advocate for Trump throughout his four-year term.
The public opinion in these nominations seems to be a mix of support and concern. On one hand, the supporters of the Republican party seem to be happy with how the cabinet is filling out. It appears that republicans will have significant control over the senate, which helps in favor of making decisions on laws. On the other hand, the Democratic party has expressed their concerns, saying that it is unfair for Trump to be able to have full control over the senate. Over the several recent presidency’s, the Democratic support in the Senate has been spread thin. This is the moment that many democrats were hoping would never come, and that is the Republicans dominating the senate along with the government as a whole.
