18 months. Three and a half hours. 4.35 million tickets sold. The Eras Tour is coming to an end on December eighth, to the disappointment of many fans. Each show featured songs from most of her 11 studio albums, with an approximate 45 songs per show.
Taylor Swift has become a household name, with an almost cult-like following. Fans obsess over her every movement, going so far as to make bets on her outfits for every show night. Taylor is very fan interaction based, leaving “Easter eggs” for future albums and releases in each current project.
In April of 2021, Taylor embarked on one of her biggest projects, which was to re-release each of her first six albums, which had been previously owned by her recording label. Taylor continued to release these albums, releasing Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and 1989 (Taylor’s Version) while on tour.
Along with these re-releases, Taylor released a full double album while on tour, by the name of The Tortured Poets Department. The second part of the album, The Anthology, was a complete surprise to fans.
Another surprise to fans was Taylor’s incorporation of two surprise songs per show, spanning the length of her entire discography. Fans began to make lists and predictions of what their show’s surprise songs would be, creating a guessing game.
With each leg of the tour, fans became more excited. An integral part of the community was the trading of friendship bracelets, which was done outside of the stadium before each show.
The economic impact of the tour was also enormous, with the revenue being expected to surpass the billions of dollars range. Fans have created small businesses to promote tour-based clothing, and hotel revenue in show cities has skyrocketed around the shows.
The tour coming to a close is a loss for many fans but marks the end of a monumental time in pop music history.
