The Beaver County Humane Society is a beloved charity in Allegheny County. They pride themselves on being a no-kill shelter, which means they save over 90 percent of the animals that come into their care. The primary service that they offer is finding these animals good, caring homes.
A wide array of dogs, cats, bunnies, guinea pigs, and even rats come through the doors, and no one is turned away. However, the Humane Society offers numerous other services, such as pet surgeries and their very own thrift store.
The Humane Society becomes especially exciting during the fall months, when they host many activities for the community, potential adopters and non-adopters alike. Recently, they had a one-week adoption event, where all fees were waived to adopt pets. It was a huge success, with an impressive one hundred and fifty-five pets being adopted.
Not concerning everyone’s favorite furry friends is the society’s annual haunted trail. The trail is on humane society property and all proceeds go to support the animals. Scarers are all community volunteers and take pride in their fun, spooky costumes.
For the younger generation, the society has a trunk or treat event, open to all ages. The pets get to mingle with prospective families, and everyone brings out their best outfits. Kids can hopefully meet their future pet, and trick or treat as their favorite characters.
Overall, the Humane Society tries to put the animals first in everything they do. There are countless volunteers, doing everything from washing blankets and cleaning crates to making sure the animals get plenty of human interaction.
The society puts an emphasis on “Adopt Don’t Shop”, as there are so many pets in shelters just waiting for their forever family. It’s important to them to spread the word that buying an expensive pet isn’t needed to make a new best friend.
