Halloween is a festive time of year where people of all ages get to dress up in fun and creative costumes, there is about $3.8 billion dollars spent by Americans on Halloween costumes every year. Whether you are passing out Halloween candy, or going Trick-or-Treating, dressing up in costumes is an exciting tradition where you get to disguise yourself in a costume for the night. Common costumes for kids are their favorite T.V. characters, sports players, and celebrities. Students here at Moon Area Highschool were interviewed about Halloween, common costume choices were Sports Players, Zombie, and ghosts. Other popular costumes were, Criminals, the Joker, Chipettes, Subway Surfers characters, teacher, Robin, Batman, and an Egyptian. Out of the interviewed students, 60% of kids said that they were passing out candy, while the other 40% of students said that they will be going Trick-or-Treating.
Another fan favorite part of Halloween is the candy, in Pennsylvania the top 3 most common candies are Hershey’s Mini Bars, M&M’s, and Skittles. However, Moon students voted their top 3 favorite Halloween candies as Sour Patch Kids, Twix, and 100 Grand bars.
Another amazing part about Halloween is the traditions and activities, many people enjoy pumpkin carving, decorating for the holiday with fun lights, and costume parties/ contests. Costume parties can be a place for people of all ages to express their creativity while enjoying fun games and themed food. Adrenaline seekers often like going to haunted houses and corn mazes, however these activities can be very intense and are usually for adults. The most common Halloween tradition amongst the interviewed students was going to the pumpkin patch. However, other common answers were “Booing” neighbors, Trick-or-Treating, pumpkin carving, and going to haunted houses.
