Take Your Pick: Sequels or the Originals?
2024 has been an exciting year for movie enthusiasts, as many classic and loved movies have come out with sequels. Beloved characters were brought back for fans in movies like Inside Out 2 and Despicable Me 4 to make for a memorable start to the year.
Inside Out was released on June 19, 2015 and quickly became a very popular and well-known movie. This summer, Inside out 2 premiered on June 10th and was available in theaters by June 14th, 2024. The original Inside out movie was co-written by Meg LeFauve and Josh Corey, it was produced by Pixar Studios and directed by Pete Docter. Similarly, the sequel was written by Meg LeFauve and Dave Holstein, directed by Kelsey Mann, and produced by Mark Nielsen. This movie is based inside the mind of an 11-year-old girl named Riley, within her mind, core emotions like Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust come to life. Inside Out 2 has this same storyline, however, now that Riley is beginning high school, she starts to experience new emotions like Envy, Embarrassment, Anxiety, and Ennui. This has been one of the most successful animated films in history, the movie has brought in a global total of about $1.46 billion.
This summer, another part to the Disney original movie Descendants was released on July 12, 2024, The Rise of Red. The first 3 Descendants movies were based on characters Mal, Dove Cameron, Evie, Sofia Carson, Jay, Booboo Stewart, and Carols, played by Cameron Boyce. Descendants 3 was released on August 2, 2019, this happened shortly after main character Cameron Boyce’s death, on July 6, 2019. Due to their co-starts death, Dove, Sofia, and Booboo did not return for Descendants 4. This raised a lot of controversy surrounding the new The Rise of Red movie, as fans felt that the movie was not complete without Cameron, and the original villain kids.
With all of these new movies coming out, fans are still deciding if they like the originals or the sequel movies better. Based off research, fans enjoyed the original Descendants movies better than the newest one. However, the new inside out of equally as popular as the original.
