Game point at Moon Invitational.
This season the Moon Area Girls Volleyball Team is very optimistic. After only losing a few seniors last year, they are ready to come back and hope to clench a spot in playoffs.
Last year, the team gained a new coaching staff. Michael Sams, previously assistant coach of Chartiers Valley, stepped in to be the new head coach. The team had immense talent, yet unable to succeed in their tough section. With a record of 5-10, the team was ready to come back and prove themselves.
Starting off the new season, the tigers fell short to South Fayette after taking them to 4 sets. Setter Elina Antoniades had 20 assists, 6 kills, and 2 aces; Libero Danica Bacu had 10 digs; Right side hitter Jade Rodemoyer had 6 kills to go with the 4 aces. They then battled Oakland Catholic, who were 2024’s section champs. The girls lost 0-3 but found a groove in the last set. With this momentum, they played in the

Moon Invitational Tournament and became champs two years in a row. They defeated Trinity to accomplish this goal. Trinity usually is a tough team to beat in section play, so this was a huge victory for the Tigers.
After losing the first two section play games, the Tigers must push to win out their section to be considered for playoffs.
As the tigers go into this week optimistic, they play Montour away on Thursday September 11. Montour is always a tough match up for the Tigers; however, they lost numerous key seniors in last year’s season.
We asked senior middle hitter, Abbie Warnagiris, on her opinion about the season and her thoughts on the upcoming game,
“I’d say it’s not living up to our expectations and we set high hopes for our season. So far, it’s been a learning experience and every game we’ve found things to improve on and get better on working as a team, plus figuring out new rotations. The Montour game should be a good game and a very important game to predict how the rest of the season may go. Montour beat South Fayette last week, who is who we lost too, so our section is super competitive, and the game could go either way.”
Stay tuned and follow moon area girls’ volleyball throughout the season to see them destroy the section.
Let’s go tigers!
