Following in her mom’s footsteps, and filling the shoes of Sydney Simon, sophomore Kam White is making her own legacy at Moon Area High School.
“Ever since I was little, I always had a camera in my hands. For that I give credit to my mom.” Not only did Kam get her first camera from her mom, but she also credits the brand name to her. “My name is Kwlegacyvisuals because my initials are KW and so are my mom’s. Her name is Kwlegacyphotography, and I am my mom’s legacy!”
White explains that she looks up to former Moon sports photographer, Sydney Simon. Simon graduated in 2024 and left Kam with these words. “She told me that I must take on her role and fill her shoes. I took that conversation to heart and made it my goal to not only capture, but to document as many school activities and events as possible.” Kam’s freshman year alone, she captured over fifteen school sports and events, but one will always be her favorite. “My favorite sport to shoot is football. There is always so much action, and the game never really stops. The opportunity to shoot so many kinds of different shots is like no other. There is always so much emotion to capture in the sport as well.”
To capture and release so many photographs, a photographer requires high-quality products and a thorough routine. Kam explains that her favorite camera to shoot on is her Cannon R6 with a f2.8 70-200 lens. She also describes her editing process. “After every shoot, I always do the same thing. First, I download the pictures into Lightroom. Next, I flag the bad ones and later delete them. With the remaining photos, I edit them, pick my favorite twenty, and post them!”
When asked about her favorite photography memory, Kam explains that there are too many to choose from. “I am so incredibly grateful to share my passion and document everyone’s legacy!” Kam is looking forward to continuing her high school photography and growing her legacy. To further her photography career, Kam plans to attend a four-year university and major in Communications after high school.
Kam left with this piece of advice: “Keep going no matter what. There are lots of adversities you have to face in this field. If you persevere and keep a positive mindset, you can do anything!”
