After serving our country as the 45th president of the United States, Donald Trump was officially sworn into office as the now 47th president of the United States as of Monday, January 20th. The Inauguration has a strict schedule, occurring every four years on January 20th. It is typically an all-day event where the president will be greeted by many exasperated fans awaiting the arrival of the president. For Trump, this will be his second time going through the tedious process of the inauguration. The president gives several speeches at several different locations in the DC area, overviewing their goals for the presidency and any other important recognitions. The president signs any executive orders into law that they deem necessary.
President Trumps main priority in the inauguration process appeared to be issuing his executive orders. Many of these orders fell under the category of securing the southern border, inflation and cost control, and imposing taxes and tariffs on foreign nations. Although not very significant, many were appalled after Trump confirmed that he would be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. Trump also spent several minutes recognizing some of his closest family members along with his most notable supporters, some of whom including Dana White, Jeff Bezos, and Elon Musk. Throughout President Trump’s speeches, he took several opportunities to take subtle jabs at the economy ran by former President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. He took time to recognize the inflation issue along with mentioning the illegal immigrants flooding the country. The question of whether Trump would mention the incidents on January 6th was brought up quite often before this day, however, Trump did not bring up those events and rather spoke on other issues.
Every annual Presidential Inauguration has occurred outside, but due to the insufferable cold, this year’s ceremony was held inside of Capital One arena, where Trump gave one of his speeches. This, as expected, caused some uproar among the diehard Trump Supporters who were thrilled to see their future president in person giving his speech. However, after viewing many interviews with supporters outside of the arena, they seemed happy just to be in the general presence of the inauguration. Many of them even got together in groups to watch Trump on their phones, finding a way to enjoy their time in Washington DC in the bitter cold.
